Alessandro Dorigatti
Ale, thank you for your time in doing this interview, so, where on the globe are you located? Would you introduce yourself and give a little personal background?
Well... I live in Italy, precisely in Padova (Padua), a town near Venezia (Venice). I am a 30 years old guy, a software engineer and my hobby is mainly photography.
Everything has a beginning, would u mind sharing with us how long have you been creating art and what are your favorite artistic tools?
I don't think myself as an "artist" ... btw i'm sharing my photos on Renderosity from 14/02/2003 and i take shots from 1997 approx...
my tools: Minolta Dimage7, Canon EOS 5, Olympus OM3.. . only the first one is a digital camera.
Software: The Gimp and Photoshop Elements.
how and when did you decide to take the cam and go shooting?
My father always loved photography... btw for a long time i never taken shots, I never thought about the beauty in capturing feelings and places... i have to say my father loves a more technical approach to photography, and sometimes this suffocates the mood and the feeling i love to see in the images
At the age of 25, started my real passion... During the first period i wanted simply to have souvenirs of the trips, but with the tour in the USA grown in me the need of reminding moods and atmospheres... I think the Grand Canyon had a big part in this.. lol.. And now the most important thing is not the place, but the mood in it.
What influences you? In both art and life? Music? Books? Movies?
Surely music has a great part: frequently during my walks i have the CD player with me, and so i take shots listening at the music... Sometimes i review a photo and i remember the music i was listening when i've taken it So i'd like to add music to my shots... to recreate the FULL original atmosphere
What do you do to get the best out of a graphic programme?
I use graphic programs only as "minor" tools.. so i have not a real need of using them "at the maximum".. btw, i try to modify the original shots to reach a better description of the original atmosphere... sometimes the mood i want to share is not at the "surface" of the image and i try to enhance it with the postwork. I have to say Photoshop and The Gimp are both needed to do this: they have different filters and i love some filters i find in PS and other i find in Gimp
As an artist, what do you think of the whole Internet phenomena?
It's really an interesting communication channel. Sometimes i think people is more genuine here than in the real life... maybe I'm wrong... surely not ever is like this, this is only my personal experience...
What would be the most important advice you could give to other aspiring artists?
Ohh.. this is really a difficult question.. and also because i'm not an artist, obviously... The only advice i can give is: try FIRST to capture the mood and AFTER try to show it with a good form I think a lot of people will not agree with me :-D
Any issues you think are being over looked in society lately?
Surely the appearance. I think this summarize all.
Where do you see humanity going with all the new technology and all, for better or for worse?
Obviously technology is and will be always a great thing. The problem is how we'll use it. We have to remember genuine things too.
What in life fascinates you?
*mumble mumble* Women, sky, clouds, mountains, grasses, trees, photography, music, beer, software and some other things i don't remember just now I know... i am a simple guy
Name three things that annoy the hell out of you
Stupidity, lie, apathy.
I know everyone asks this question, but I find the answers sometimes intriguing. What three people would you invite to your fantasy dinner?
Bach (one of my preferred musicians), Beethoven (another preferred musician), Norah Jones (another preferred musician) ... i think it could be an interesting dinner about music... lol
If you could be a character from a fantasy novel, movie or cartoon, who would you be?
I am surely Boromir, the human warrior in "The lord of the ring". I know... he's not a so positive character, but i'm just like him in a lot of situations: i want to "stole the ring"... this generally create chaos around me... after, i feel the weight of my decisions and i carry on the consequences.
Any closing thoughts or comments?
Keep on the great work with DreamZ... I really hope one day we'll meet in real life, my friend *hugs*
Thank u so much Ale for sharing your world and vision, all the best for your future projects
